Our client, a global financial services company, is looking to hire a full-time Illustrator, hybrid, onsite in NYC or Northern NJ 3 days a week.

The Illustrator must have strong conceptual skills but also be comfortable adopting the new existing design style, which the hiring manager describes as graphic and elegant, very literal narrative scenes.

A strong understanding of design systems is needed; consistency is paramount.

Strong visual design skills in digital first design system environment
Expert in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator, and excellent knowledge of Figma
Ability to take a given style and apply across a library of assets
Excellent illustration skills with a proven range from simple, clear linear UX icons to complex hero illustrations
A sophisticated eye for design including intelligently executed layouts and the appropriate application of illustration spot or icon style
Proven ability to distill, document and apply logic to evolve visual language
Excellent understanding of design systems, UX and UI product design
Experience working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment
Capable of independent decision-making as well as able to take direction
Demonstrated ability to create work product that shows design intent
Demonstrated ability to participate in critique and incorporate feedback
Demonstrates ability to handle multiple priorities / deadlines without compromising quality
Developing ability to incorporate user needs, business needs, and technical constraints/opportunities into the illustration creation process
Understanding of design systems (IA, pattern library, visual design libraries, motion library)

Illustrator Responsibilities
Create illustrations and icons across mobile and web that elevate the UI and contribute to a robust design system
Maintain a high standard of illustration that promotes an excellent example of Masterbrand guidelines in action
Consult and direct Masterbrand illustration and iconography as designers contribute new assets
Help define a visual design system and language, create documentation and advocate application across different products and platforms
Be an active member of a horizontal design team, participate in design critiques and peer reviews
Collaborate with product managers, executive and brand/marketing stakeholders to realize illustrations
Work and communicate effectively with team members located in multiple locations
Work closely with other disciplines to understand design context and collaborate within team for solutions
Deliver solutions (sketches, icons, illustrations) and participate in critique process to improve design acceptance
Develop critical thinking through iteration and design review
Execute processes and produce artifacts in support of the team goals
Proactively seek out ways of incorporating the customer experience into daily work
Proactively identify team-level issues that affect product quality to senior design management
Work collaboratively and contribute to the success of a multidisciplinary team
Contribute to high performing teams through the development of self and others, emphasizing continuous learning and growth

This in-house team, which acts like a mini agency, taking briefs etc. works closely with the omnichannel brand teams and there is the option to lean into that, if desired, but either way the Illustrator will need to be able to advise the product teams on which illustrations, if any, are right for the work and so comfortability talking about UX/product design and referencing research etc. is needed.

This is a full-time hybrid (onsite in NY or NJ) Illustrator opportunity starting in June!
