Service Designer / Researcher - WFH during Covid-19

Our client, a global financial company, is looking to hire a strategic Service Designer / Researcher for a 6 month contract role w/ potential to go full-time, starting out remote for at least the first 3 months, eventually onsite in NYC once the office is open.

Qualified candidates must be able to speak to service design beyond/past the high overview level. For example, being able to discuss what it means to create a service blueprint.

Recent grads with credentialed academic experience are welcome to apply (an MFA is ideal) as long as their school portfolio clearly identifies their role in projects.

The hiring manager needs to see samples such as services blueprints, customer journeys, current state, target state, etc. or research reports done to inform the design.

This is more of a strategic, research, and process focused Service Design role and does not involve cranking out wireframes, building prototypes or creating pixel perfect screens.

Qualified Service Designers / Researchers must understand touchpoints and process flow, being able to put together the pieces and parts and map out and design the people, process and technology parts of a digital financial product that is part of a complex ecosystem.

Service Designer Requirements
• At least 3 years of experience in relevant/human-centered design
• Degree in Design Research, Service Design, Design Strategy, Interaction Design or other design-related field
• Experience/familiarity with service design (could be any product: mobile, desktop etc.) as long as it’s new and not designs for an improvement to an existing digital product
• Client centric point of view / human design thinking
• A good head for analysis and research synthesis: What did we really learn? What does it really mean? and then translating that into opportunities and research outputs
• Able to construct a good artifact of a user journey, including where the pain points exist
• Facilitate workshops and ideation sessions and put together final artifacts (service blueprint, user journeys etc.)
• Ability to stand up to the stakeholders for the design thinking way of doing things – confident!
• Familiar enough with research and qualitative research to support and understand what makes a good research plan

Service Designer Responsibilities
• Participate in the end-to-end design process contributing to the generation, critique and iteration of digital products and services across various financial touch points, channels and entire eco-systems
• Plan and conduct user research with current and potential customers, in close collaboration with design and business leaders in the organization
• Synthesize large bodies of research data to provide insights, identify opportunities, and generate conceptual frameworks
• Translate and bridge research to tangible design opportunities and outputs (often times playing at the intersection of UX and Service Design)
• Facilitate co-creative sessions (e.g. user research, brainstorming, concepting) with key stakeholders
• Create tailored artifacts such as presentations, reports, visual maps, prototypes, storyboards, service blueprints, journey maps, personas, etc. to help stakeholders understand and drive actionable paths forward
• Drive design thought leadership internally and externally
