Our client, a retail CPG company, needs to hire a full-time Designer Manager to join their Party Division onsite at their office in Westchester County (not easily commutable by public transportation).

This is a new Designer Manager role that is open for growth to lead a new team because of increased business!

The ideal Designer Manager has a proven track record of developing consumer products that have been successful at retail, including experience being responsible for programs where a design was created and then translated across various formats (500-1000 skus/year).

The Design Manager role is managerial but still hands on. Candidates must be comfortable making presentations to VP level executives in addition to managing a team.

The role may involve occasional travel to local manufacturing / distribution centers and trade shows.

Design Manager Responsibilities:
• Researching, creating and designing fresh, innovative product designs while forming a background of product familiarity in subject matter, product function or usage, consumer price/value consideration, “total package” concept awareness and sales information.
• All of the tableware design, as well as the Art Direction and creation of any artwork needed for any of the coordinating decorations, products and packaging.
• All of the Trend Research for all departments including, but not limited to party trends, surface design and pattern trends, product ideas and development, innovation design and packaging, marketing, web etc.
• Managing the Design Team that assists in the above-mentioned design and trend projects.

Design Manager Essential Functions / Key Accountabilities:
1. Develop fresh, innovative, creative approaches to products that will enhance and give balance to product lines. Explore new product solutions to help the look of the product continue to evolve.
2. Works directly under the Creative Director to execute initial design concepts all the way through to final production stage.
3. Create working style-guides under the direction of the Creative Director for product and/or packaging. Ensures that they are set up technically correct and ready for layout artists to use for production.
4. Works with the Prepress Team to determine color palettes needed for production on point with the Director’s request. Identifies needs for color in production (CMYK vs. Spot etc.) well in advance of art out deadlines.
5. Effectively communicates color direction to PD Team, Art Managers & Layout Artists to ensure files are set up accurately prior to passing to prepress.
6. Assists Creative Director, PD Team & Art Managers with any issues/inquires that the HK Office or vendors inquire about.
7. Assists Creative Director & Art Managers with the administrative duties associated with Licensed Programs. This may include collection/creation of images to submit to licensor, tracking & follow-up of submissions, artwork needs that arise, preparation for presentations & meetings etc.
8. Proficient in the technical preparation of artwork and awareness of the systems involved.
9. Some knowledge of overseas sourcing (products are sourced in China and Domestically.)
10. Participate in market research thru print, web, market assessment and attending local trade shows. Competitive shopping to be aware of market trends.
11. Instrumental in the training of new Designers. Work side by side with them to ensure a solid understanding of all the processes of the team.
12. Demonstrate teamwork, have dependable work habits, efficient time management, as well as a clear understanding of job priorities.
13. Possess sound communication skills & maintain good working relationships with colleagues in the department as well as individuals in other departments throughout the company. Know how and with whom to communicate in order to expedite assignments and resolve problems situations.
14. Team player with flexibility to work on a variety of projects as needed. Independent and pro-active in problem solving.
15. Outstanding ability to take direction and follow through and meet deadlines as indicated.
16. Manage multiple projects at once.
