Our client, a nonprofit engineering organization, is seeking a Copywriter / Copy Editor to join their team as a full time employee.

**Please note that this role is currently fully remote but you may need to commute to the client's office in NYC in the future for meetings, events, etc. A laptop will be provided to you!**

The Copywriter / Copy Editor will:

- Work with the Editor in Chief of Mechanical Engineering magazine and within the editorial team to help conceive, edit, develop, and produce new content for various media platforms, including the print magazine, the online version of the magazine and e-newsletters
- Help define approaches to articles and be a strong sounding board when it comes to technical topics and direction of coverage
- Ideate, write, edit, and publish content pieces, including long-form articles (~800 words), feature stories, etc. across various print and digital platforms
- Develop content that has a thoughtful tone, gives weight to stories and positions the brand as a thought leader in the space with an aim of increasing the acquisition, engagement, and retention of members
- Research relevant topics within the industry for varied content pieces
- Interview subject matter experts, coming prepared about the topic and asking the right questions
- Work with internal and/or external creatives, specifically authors, to shepherd creative assets (photo, video, illustration, graphic design) from start to finish, helping to editing their stories as well
- Serve as the project manager for the editorial and creative teams on assigned projects
- Assist the Editor in Chief to identify, manage and develop freelance writers and editors, determining clear roles and responsibilities, in line with the editorial mission, voice and tone
- Partner with the Analytics team to analyze content performance and apply learnings to apply to future content roadmap

The Copywriter / Copy Editor must:

- Have a Bachelors degree, or additional equivalent experience
- Have at least 5 years experience in journalism or media, including editing and feature writing
- Previous engineering, science or technology writing experience is a plus but not required; however, must have interest in the space!
- Be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word)
- Experience in the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically proofing copy in InDesign, is a plus
- Experience with Google Analytics is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communcation skills
- Have excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills as well as experience working in cross-functional teams
- Have experience managing digital workflows for media sites and content management systems
- Have a detailed approach to work and the ability to work independently and remain organized in order to meet commitments and balance competing priorities
- Be able to identify key issues, gather data to investigate those issues, and develop actionable recommendations
- Be charismatic and chatty
