Communications Writer (Advocacy) - WFH during Covid-19

Our professional association client in Washington, DC is looking for a Communications Writer with extensive government advocacy experience to join their team on a long term contract. This position is 37.5 hours/week.

You must provide three writing samples to be considered for this role. Your samples need to include a speech or talking points and a press release.

Duties of the Communications Writer (Advocacy):
- Work with the Advocacy team to obtain necessary information and create compelling copy for local, state and federal government officials
- Develop copy that engages, educates and motivates target audiences and clearly explains the organizations policy positions
- Propose and develop relevant content for the organization's social media channels to increase engagement and education
- Work with Communications Team to develop talking points, write speeches, and write feature stories for use across multiple marketing and communication channels
- Advise on story ideas of the advocacy newsletter
- Assist with pro-active and reactive media relations outreach

Requirements of the Communications Writer (Advocacy):
- 7+ years of writing experience
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English
- Knowledge of government relations at federal, state and local level
- Experience writing talking points or speechwriting required
- Political, policy, or advocacy experience preferred
- Experience developing copy for traditional, broadcast and digital channels
